On a much lighter, stinkier note...

Title of this post does not have anything to do with this cutie-pie. I just had to include this huge, adorable smile. He is such a good baby. I could just eat him up.

So I have had NO time to blog about all of the events last week. I will get to it eventually! It was wild with Thomas getting sick and then Mimi catching it and having to go home, yet I still had class that I had to go to...you get the picture.
In the middle of all that I was fortunate enough to have Aunt Becky come one evening so I could shower-yes, I am admitting to the world that I do not shower every day. (By the way, this fact also has nothing to do with the title of this post including the word "stinky.") You have to have priorities being a single mother of a newborn and a two-year-old. Showering is not high on that list. I am digressing...
So I felt like I was going a million miles a minute all week and this feeling continued as I was getting ready after my shower. (I feel like taking time to fix my hair after a shower is eating into precious children time-or precious sleeping time, so I'm always in a hurry.)
I intentionally did not post about my new haircut--seemed kind of trivial in light of everything else going on, but now to tell this not-so-short story I have to post about it.
I've never had my hair so short in my life. I love it. Melissa at "Spoiled" salon is a friend and an awesome hair dresser and she knew what I needed. Something easy to fix, yet wouldn't make my curls look like a triangle head. THANKS, Melissa!
I am finally wrapping this story up...stay with me here.
I bought exactly all of the hair products she used on me so that I could try and re-create my new hair cut style on my own at home.
One of these products is called Rusk. It is to be sprayed "liberally." (I think that is the word it used on the back.)
So in my haste, I grabbed the small clear bottle with an orange top and sprayed--liberally.
After a second or so of spraying, I start coughing and my eyes are stinging. Becky was in the room and I told that I must have sucked in right when I sprayed it. I continue spraying.
After the coughing doesn't stop, I finally stop spraying and look at the bottle. I immediately put my head under the faucet of the sink while Becky is asking what is going on!? Now her eyes are burning in the next room!! Here's what I saw:
I freaking sprayed "Off" mosquito repellent all over my hair!! My eyes and neck stung for at least ten minutes after re-washing. Just so you don't think I'm nuts, here's what they look like from behind.

A mistake any frazzled mom could make, right??

  1. Oh my goodness! LOL That sounds like something I would do. Lack of sleep, in a hurry, distracted... I can imagine that was pretty awful though.

Can I ask(see a picture?) what your haircut is like? I also have curly hair, and your new style intrigues me. I feel like I'm in a rut, its so hard to try new styles when I figure they are just going to look ridiculous with curly hair. I'm glad you found something you like!

  2. I just love you, Bonnie! The other night I poured sugar in my chicken soup (thus ruining the last bowl of it) instead of my tea. And they were in totally different containers (tall tea glass versus bright yellow soup bowl). I ended up eating shells and cheese with the girls instead. So, I can sympathize. Except for the eyes burning part :)

  3. I had the complete joy of watching my roomate make a similar mistake once. She came back to our room from the shower. She stood in front of the mirror, and began to drench her hair in leave-in-conditioner....it was actually a rank perfume. And she was already late for class :)

  8. I could so see myself doing the same thing! At least you are able to laugh at yourself. Sometimes we just have to slow down and take some time out for mama! Post some pictures of your new style, I bet it's cute.

  9. Oh, my word, that is so funny. And as the mom of a newborn, you have every excuse. :) Also, I'm so glad you used the term 'triangle head' - I just got my hair cut last night & the hairstylist acted like she had never heard that before!

  10. I'm my! This totally sounded like something I would do! I'd love to see a picture. I would love to have short hair but can't figure out how that would work with my curls.

  12. Hahahahahahaha!!! That story made my night. I know I've said it before, but anytime you use the word "freaking" it makes me laugh. Everytime you make me laugh really hard, I think of laughing in the back of the Grand Am about Bob's make-believe dog that jumped on him while you were on the phone. Now I digress...

  13. So funny. I can just imagine. . . not laughing at your painful situation but that other moms do crazy things. It's good to know it's not just me! On a positive note, maybe you won't have to worry about bug bites for a very long time!

  14. Oh, Bonnie, I'm so sorry!! Were you able to find that leave in conditioner or do I need to get you some?? I'm not sure what having babies do to our brain cells, but my three babies have really used mine up. I'm glad I'm not the only one that does silly things. :) you made my day!

  16. I laughed out loud on this one. Not laughing at you, mind you, but with you, because I doubt there isn't a mother out there that can relate. Like me wearing two different colored shoes on the first day of school this year. And I don't even have the "baby" excuse...just kids. I love the picture of Thomas. What a happy baby he is! I cannot wait to see your haircut. Saturday night?

  18. Bonnie, this was SO funny and is definitely one of the reasons I love you!! I have to tell you that once during the SAME meal at Wiedekehrs with my mom...I poured Sweet N Low in my Swiss Onion Soup, I was talking and thinking i was adding it to my unsweet tea. So there you have it. One day we will have to sit down and talk about such stories! Ok...I just read a post below that must be from my kindred spirit!! Whose Natalie? OH no! Haha!

  20. p.s. I leaned up against a wall sconce with a candle (lit) at a 'fancy' Christmas party 2 years ago. Flames almost a foot tall I was told..out of my ponytail. Stinky burnt hair smell in the same room as the smoked salmon and other fancy hors devours. this OFF story will stay with me for a while, hilarious!!!

  21. Hi. I read your blog often, never commented until I read that post! Too funny. If it makes you feel any better...I brushed my teeth with monistat once. Nice, huh? My tongue went numb and everything. Makes me shudder a little when I think about it. You are doing great and I think about you and your family everyday. Thanks for helping me to remember what is really important!
